Metro Outreach

Metro Outrea
One facet of the Extension Division’s value of "giving ourselves away" is the Metro Outreach Department. In keeping with Perimeter’s vision statement: "To bring the people of greater Atlanta and all places where we serve into a life transforming encounter with the Kingdom of God", two staff members in Metro Outreach are "on loan to the city."

Presuppositions About City-Reaching

  • The task of “bringing the people of Atlanta into a life-changing encounter with the Kingdom” is greater then one church or network of churches can accomplish alone. Increasing unity across the Body of Christ is essential for success.
  • Before a city can be impacted, the life-transformation must flow from the individual, to the local congregation, to the community and society, and then to the city.
  • There are 5 steps in city impact, which apply to the individual, congregation, community and the city:

    1. An encounter with a holy God, bringing repentance, confession and forgiveness of sin.

    2. Humility of heart and attitude, relinquishing the drive to achieve, control and lead, for the sake of the church and the city.

    3. Healing the division in the Body of Christ.

    4. The Body of Christ united on behalf of the needs of the city.

    5. The united Body impacting the city.

Learning to Walk in Unity

Believing that one church cannot reach a city, we work to support, encourage, resource, cast vision, and sometimes lead cooperative efforts between churches. These are primarily in three areas:

  • Praying - through intentional prayer gathering and connecting our prayer ministries together. unite Atlanta is one such effort.

  • Serving - externally focused ministry in the community that addresses people needs, again together. Connecting Perimeter’s Community Outreach ministries and other serving opportunities through Unite! are good examples.

  • Celebrating - worshipping at other’s churches, gathering for large and small scale special events of worship, praise, repentance, and general celebration of our unity in Christ.

Can you Help?

There are a number of ways to join in with the Metro Outreach effort . . .

  • Connector - people who have many connections in the Christian community in metro-Atlanta and who want to use those connections to bring the Body together. These could be marketplace, leadership, or lay connections.

  • Web Designer/Artist - people with art and web experience are needed for advice and hands-on work.

  • Grant Writer - getting funding is always a challenge. If you have experience in grant applications, you could be most helpful.

  • Event Coordinator - experienced, organized people are needed to facilitate networking events.
